Shhhhhh..... Can you hear that??? That my dear goodreading friends is the sound of my summer-long book slump being kicked into touch!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lindsey Kelk you are my knight in shining armour. I absolutely 100% love love LOVE you!!! You are so witty and funny and just super awesome. Please be my bestie???? *puppy dog eyes*Yeah that's just plain weird, I'm sorry...... “I dropped the phone back in my bag just as we pulled up outside my apartment. Just two minutes and seven flights of stairs until I was snout deep in a tub of Chunky Monkey. Live the dream, Jenny Lopez, live the dream. Yeah, it had been a pretty bad week.”This e-short is a companion novella to my fav series of books, the I Heart series. It's a story that upgrades the status of the character Jenny from supporting to leading role. It would normally be a relatively quick read for most readers yet it took me daaaaaays to get through because of my incredibly irritating reading slump!! However, somewhere about half way through something wonderful and magical happened.... I SUDDENLY FOUND MYSELF NOT GETTING DISTRACTED OR ANYTHING LIKE I HAVE BEEN ALL SUMMER!!!! *cue much whooping and hollering*It was just a whole lot of girlish silliness and banter. Pretty much exactly the kind of easy read that works for when you're suffering from a book slump. And just like that I found myself gazing at my bookcase with love and adoration again, and getting incredibly excited over the prospect of reading my current library loans. (God only knows how many poor books I have borrowed and returned to my library these past three months in the hopes of ditching the slump!!!).Anyway to those of you that have been following the I Heart series this novella is number 3.5 in the series The complete series order for anyone who is interested is as follows. 1. I Heart New York2. I Heart Hollywood3. I Heart Paris3.5. Jenny Lopez Has a Bad Week4. I Heart Vegas5. I Heart London6. I Heart Christmas6.5. Jenny Lopez Saves ChristmasI'm a big fan of the series and have read all the main novels so am only just now getting to go back and read the e-shorts because I treated myself to a very lovely tablet earlier this year! So, as I was saying earlier, this book focuses on Jenny who is normally in the supporting role to Angela. I have never found her to be the most likeable of characters (she's quite demanding in many respects and at times, dare I say, a little shallow) but she definitely is interesting. Therefore, I was very pleased to see her character blossom into someone with a little more depth. I do think that in the later books she truly comes into her own so perhaps this novella is where the seeds were sown for creating the added layers to her character that we get to see in books 5 and 6. This is a very short story so really the less I say about it the better. No spoilers here!! It's a whole lot of fun and easy to read, it's very flirty and there are plenty of giggles to be had. Ms Kelk has a talent for writing characters that really do feel like you could be best friends with. At times they are ridiculous (aren't we all!?!) but at other times, they are very stripped back and true. If you like this series, and have been following the trials and tribulations of Angela and company, then you'll definitely enjoy this book. It's as simple as that. It is not really a true standalone and is best read in the order I gave above. three and a half to four stars Although it probably deserves at least four for helping me rediscover my joy for reading. Bye bye book slump, hello books!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh how I have missed you!! *happy squealing*

Jenny Lopez is miserable. Having spent the summer working in LA, she’s back home in New York, and missing the three key elements in a girl’s life — a roommate, a job and a boyfriend. Jenny formulates a plan; surely someone must need a roommate and surely someone must need a girlfriend? By the end of the day, she has arranged a viewing for a potential roommate, the gay blond aka Stefan the Swede, secured two dates, and work looking after a top supermodel. Things look like they are back on track; everything is going to work out great. If only life was so easy!Jenny Lopez Has A Bad Week is an exclusive short story from Lindsey Kelk, the author of the I Heart novels, and gives Angela’s best friend Jenny a voice. It’s a mere 82 pages long and it took me about 40 minutes or so to complete it. I must admit, I’m not a fan of the I Heart novel – Angela is one of the softest most annoying heroines ever (she’s like a diluted Becky Bloomwood and I love Becky). However, when I was reading the I Heart novels, I did love Jenny. She was spunky and she was, frankly, everything Angela was not. She had life, she had verve, she was funny. So I was thrilled when I heard about the short story focusing completely on her.I thoroughly enjoyed Jenny Lopez Has A Bad Week, Jenny is a total star, and carries the book beautifully, and I must admit, I was sad the novel was only 82 pages long because I would have quite happily continued reading. Jenny could easily carry off a full-length novel, and if Lindsey ever felt like writing it, I’d certainly pick it up. There’s definitely a story there somewhere, and the 82 pages just whizzed by. Sure it was a teensy bit predictable, but to be honest it was easy to brush that aside, it 82 pages so it needed to have some predictability to it or else it would never have gotten finished. My only teensy tiny complaint is more of a personal one. In the I Heart novels Angela continually refers to men as boys. It drove me nuts then and it drove me nuts now whilst reading Jenny Lopez, because they still have that affliction. It drives me loopy, but again I think it’s more a personal thing, and probably many people won’t have a problem with it. It just seems patronising and childish particularly since they’re meant to be grown women. Even if you’re not a fan of the I Heart books you can still pick this up. It’s short and sweet (and free for a limited time) and it’s an easy way to pass an hour or so. I sincerely hope Kelk decides to expand and give Jenny her own full length novel. She deserves it.

Over the last year or so Lindsey Kelk has found her way into my heart and become one of my favorite authors. Her fantastic I Heart series has really caught the imagination of Chick Lit lovers all round the world with her protagonist, Angela Clark who moves to New York to start a brand new life. Oh how we have lived vicariously through her life as she lands a plum job on a magazine, nabs a herself a cute hipster boyfriend and travels to exciting cities such as LA and Paris to cover stories. Lindsey has been a very busy lady not only is she working on a new I Heart book she has also written a stand alone title called The Single Girls To-Do List which is released in June and she has also found time to write a spin off of the I Heart series. Jenny Lopez Has a Bad Week is a short digital download which follows Angela’s best friend as she struggles to restart her life after moving back to NYC from LA. A native New Yorker, Jenny’s dream came true when she landed a cool gig as a stylist in La La Land and where she rubs shoulders with starlets. Also she had Angela for company so the two would explore LA night life and get into all sorts of mischief. However Jenny’s luck ran out when she found out that her flat mate was a high class hooker and it was time to head back east.So she is back in the Big Apple but at her lowest ebb with no job, flat mate or boyfriend so she sets out to rectify this and fast. Pretty soon she has sorted out a viewing with a potential flat mate and has booked two dates with exciting prospects. It looks like the job situation has been sorted when her mate Erin hooks her up with a job to babysit a supermodel. Piece of cake she thinks after all one thing she is good at is is dealing with people, except she finds out that the supermodel is a real handful. It looks like Jenny is going to have a really bad week. We always take the lead protagonist in a book to our hearts but it is often the supporting characters that often steal the show and with theI Heart series, Jenny Lopez with her sassy wit stole the show. After all it was she who got Angela back on her feet when she first landed in NYC and looking fabulous in her designer and vintage outfits. So it is only right that Jenny should get her own spin off book where we get to know the little minx much better. It has been a while since I last read an I Heart title so it was really great to catch up with Jenny and Angela, after all they do lead the most fabulous lives. In a nutshell Jenny Has a Bad Week was short but very very sweet.

What a fabulous little read. I sat and read this in one sitting in about 90 minutes. I am not a reader of "chic lit" but wanted something to read that wasn't going to take me long. This book just seemed as if it was going to be a light hearted read, and it was just that. The book mainly centres around Jenny, but then there's her friends Erin and Angela. Jenny's life seems to be in a mess since coming back from LA. No real job, no roommate and no boyfriend as she's been dumped by the love of her life.I loved going through Jenny's week with her. I found that I was easily able to picture her and her friends and her little apartment.I found the book funny and was actually quite sad when it came to an end as I wanted to carry on her life's journey for her.I have never heard of this author but will certainly hunt down her books. It has also changed my mind a little about chic-lit books, so I won't rule them out in the future.Great read. Give it a tryReview taken from my blog - http://bookalicious-traveladdict.blog...

It is a really good quick read book by the talented Lindsey Kelk! Everything you could expect from a 'chick lit' book and more! Jenny Lopez is one of my favourite characters from the 'I Heart' Series, in this book we get more of a taste of this character, it is a fun book to read while waiting for the next book to come out.

A little spin off from the I Heart series. The story focuses on Jenny, learning about Jenny's life since arriving back from LA. It was nice to learn about the real Jenny.Looking forward to another instalment and spin off of the I Heart Series.

this is really a cute novella, i didn't read any of the I heart series- even though i have them downloaded and on the go - but i like the author and her writing since "The Single Girl's To-Do List" her writing is very funny and smooth.

I know it's a short story but I can't believe I finished it in under an hour! I just didn't want to put it down! I love Jenny in the I Heart series (although there are times when I can barely tolerate her) so was pleased to see how her life is getting on, and unfortunately it's not going too well. I loved the recurring characters from the I Heart series which make an appearance and get mentioned (even thought I was quite surprised by one of them) - it's nice to see how everything carries on after the I Heart books have ended (and now I'm currently, eagerly, awaiting for the next installment)! There was humour in the book which is always good, despite Jenny having a bad week. The only problem I had with her is that she's too proud and even though she had a way out of one of her problems she wouldn't take it. I did feel bad for her with Jeff's news, I would like it in the new I Heart book for her to get with him however it ended in a way where it seems doubtful, however it was a good ending! Although it was far too sudden for my liking. Personally I'd love more of these kind of books to be published to see how she gets on.Being only a short book I don't know what else I can say about it, the plot was great (even if she did seem whiny at times); there was a great ending as most of the loose ends were nicely tied; it was nice for it to still have the feel of the I Heart books with things that are familiar to the reader and there were a couple of new and interesting characters to add to the mix which may return in the main series, which would be interesting to see.All in all, it was a great book and I'm pleased I had found out about it. This has been a great filler for the wait of the new I Heart book and for Lindsey's latest novel of The Single Girls To Do List.

I didn’t like to lie. It was bad for the soul and – way more importantly – it was bad for the complexion, but there was no polite way of saying, ‘Hey pretentious asshole, you’re wasting precious seconds of my life. I need them. Byesies.- JennyYou get out what you put in. If you’re putting negative energy out there, you’ll get negative results.’- AngelaThe love of my life had got engaged to someone else. The way I saw it I had three choices. Beg him to take me back, cry myself blind or kill them both. Now begging hadn’t worked in the past, and while I could totally beat that man-stealer down, killing her might be a little far-fetched. Besides, there was a teensy chance that Jeff would hold it against me instead of being won over by the romance of the whole murder thing. Which left crying myself blind. Hmm. - JennyIf this was my karmic gift for getting my shit together after Angie’s big Jeff announcement, I was fine with it.- JennyIt was time to take destiny into my own hands.- JennyI didn’t believe in wasting liquor. ‘Jenny Lopez Has a Bad Week’ is a short story centered around the titular character Jenny, best friend and former roommate of the heroine of Lindsey Kelk’s ‘I Heart’ series of novels (‘I Heart New York’, ‘I Heart Hollywood’ and ‘I Heart Paris’). It’s not necessary to have read them to enjoy this story, I think it stands perfectly well on it’s own, but it certainly enhanced my enjoyment through getting to see characters that I love from a different perspective. It’s a quick and easy little read that I really enjoyed, and it made the train ride to work fly by. In fact, I have only two complaints about Jenny Lopez Has a Bad Week: a) it's too short, and b) it makes me miss Angela and Alex and pine for another ‘I Heart...’ book even more.If only it hadn't ended, especially as I was really starting to like the new characters Sigge and Sadie - I hope we get to see more of them in future books. Which takes me back to point b) - reading this didn't so much take the edge off my craving for more ‘I Heart...’ books as it did stoke the flames even higher!

I didn't realise how short this book was, but it was a lovely quick & funny read! I have read all of Lindsey Kelk's books and this was is just as humorous. If you are looking for a quick, light hearted chick lit book - this is the one. In fact all of her books from the I heart series are for you.As for this one it was weird reading from Jenny's perspective because I was used to Angela's voice; but credit to the author as she wrote them in dramatically different styles! Which in my opinion was fab! As she made Jenny's thoughts out to be how I had imagined them to be in the other books. This book also gives you a bit fo foreground into her afterlife from breaking up with Jeff. Although I know how that turns out from reading I heart Vegas, it was good to know the initial feelings around it. Again - whilst it was a serious heartbreak for Jenny - the author writes it in such a funny way!In a nutshell - I loved this book! It's not winning any literary awards - but such a nice treat after reading a VERY long and boring novel! :-)

Jenny Lopez was back to New York and found out that she missed a lot of things – her job, her roommate and her boyfriend. As a woman who specialized in breaking-up department, she tried to plan out her life after LA. Would she get a man, a roommate and a job at once? Well it turned out the gay blond model she met at a nail salon wanted to see her place, to be a roommate. At the same time she got to look after a top supermodel as a gig. Would her life be as easy as it sounded? It turns out I freaked out more on short stories than actual book. You have no idea I was freaking out that the hot stud wasn’t gay at all and actually attracted to Jenny! God bless Jenny for a bad week turned really well in the end. I have to say that being inside Jenny’s mind is really fun because all the I Heart series are in Angela’s mind. I can’t help to want to be inside Jenny’s mind again and again.

Noooo don't finish!!! I knew Jenny Lopez was a short little funky story, but that was my reaction when I turned the page to realise it was game over. I wanted to cry, I wanted to know more, I wanted to be a fly on the wall in Jenny's apartment. I can't believe it has taken me so long to get around to a Lindsey Kelk book. I deliberately started with this because it was short and I could slip it on top of my TBR and get a feel for her writing style. I am extremely impressed, and if I can be extremely impressed from a novella then this girl writes brilliantly. Full of diverse characters that bounce of each other there is someone for everyone to connect with. A story that grips you and as you see from my reaction you don't want to end. She is a very clever and witty writer and I know I'm going to enjoy the rest of her work. Bring on Kelk book number 2.

quite the interesting story line. not.i guess i shouldn't complain. the book is really short...or maybe it was actually a short story idk, point is, hardly a lot to go on or put a solid foundation or something.so where were we? yes. single girl moves back to city. supporting friends. awful dates. some x-bf drama. new job stress. bitch supermodel...oh so typical chicklit.however, the writing is as humorous as i was expecting. plus as cliche as it sounds, i really like how the protagonist didn't go back to her x and the idea of her ending up with a very hot guy ( a model nevertheless) :)

I love the I heart series by Linsdey Kelk and I loved that this gave a closer look at the old roommate of Angie, the main character in I heart books. It was a very quick read, I managed to read most of it at the hairdressers while my hair dye was processing. If you looking for a quick, fun read that will make you smile then this is great.

Really funny short story. It had me laughing out loud quite a few times. Like when Sigge came round. Jenny thought he was coming to view the apartment, he thought they were going on a date. Cue HUGE missunderstanding when she invites him to look around the bedroom lol. The kick in the balls really did it for me.Really enjoyed this, and will deffinately be reading more of Lindseys work.

Finally we get an insight in to the mind of Jenny Lopez. She is the best friend of Angela and it was great to see what she was up to whilst Angela was of doing her thing. This is a quick fun read that does actually fill a couple of gaps that were between a couple of the books. Not an essential part of the I Heart series, but it’s fun anyway.

Way too short! I also felt like I didn't know alot of the "inside jokes." read the other books in the series before you read this one. While it is about a different character, the main characters in the "I heart..." series are the secondary characters in this story. I just seemed like I was missing something throughout the book.

I enjoyed seeing things from Jenny's perspective because most of the time I kind of hate her. She's pretty annoying in the I Heart books, but I saw her appeal in this one. The only reason I didn't give this 4 stars is that half of the ebook was actually an excerpt from a different book and I was irritated.

This amazing little book was so much fun to read. I love how Lindsey Kelk gave us the opportunity to follow a week of Jenny's daily life. Each chapter you learn more about the caracter and how much you want her to be your best friend. Eventhough the title says she had a bad week, once you read the story you'll most likely agree that Jenny's life isn't that bad after all.

    2018-11-13 15:30

For a short, quick read, it isn't bad. At all. It follows the character of Jenny just as you'd want and expect. As always, it would have been nice if it were longer, and I was expecting another page to turn up when I flicked over for it. But it does help to remember it's short of being 100 pages long.

This was a quick read. When I was reading, all I could think of was how quickly this short story will age. The book contains so many references to current pop culture that it's distracting, and even more so when in 5 years you have no idea who and what the people, TV shows and fashion labels mentioned in the book are.

A light-hearted read. I enjoyed it. Did not understand some of the fashion/society references and initialisms because I don't live in that sort of world, but it did not affect my enjoyment too much. For a humorous, light story I thought the characters were well-drawn.

Quick casual read .. Though i was not expecting it to end the way it did .. Bit still no complains. It's good when you want to read something that is not inspiring, soulful too serious. It will make a good book for short Road trips.
